We are proud to announce that one of our affiliates, Hip Hop Hall of Fame Museum (HHOF) has secured their New York State museum charter and an official midtown site to begin construction.
In 2012, The Mixtape Museum sat down with a group, including HHOF, various hip hop archives and individual collectors to discuss the future and needs of hip hop preservation. The result of this meeting was the formation of a network to share information, develop best industry practices and standards, and to encourage collaborations on archival and exhibition projects and collections.
Included in the alliance are: Hip Hop Hall of Fame, Smithsonian, Schomburg, Cornell University, Harvard University, University of Houston, Hip Hop Education Center, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Mixtape Museum, to name a few.
The Hip Hop Hall of Fame Museum & Entertainment Complex in Midtown Manhattan will include the hall, museum, retail store, sports bar/restaurant, concert lounge, arcade, and tv studios. It will serve an estimated 1,000,000 visitors annually and produce up to 300 jobs and internships. With a projection of 250 live events and educational programs for people of all ages, the socio-economic impact in NYC is estimated over $350M annually.
