In 2009, I started high school and Nicki Minaj’s Beam Me Up Scotty first dropped. I remember riding the train to class everyday listening to Itty Bitty Piggy, Still I Rise, and Beam Me Up Scotty (the song) on repeat on my iPod classic.
It was through this mixtape I started to really see myself in a new light and shed some of the limiting beliefs bullying had laid into me. Each of my favorite songs bring their own flavor and personality to the idea that you can be exactly who you want to be and everybody else has to just accept it or get out the way.
